The Good Samaritan

The Good Samaritan

I’ve heard it said that it takes a village to raise a child, and I am sure that is true.  It also takes a village to find and keep a client successfully.  It takes a group of people understanding and believing in that common goal, and being willing to help each other and the collective business to reach that goal.

For those you working in jobs where you deal directly with clients, via phone, web, or face-to-face, you know it takes a lot of work to pull off a stellar presentation.  You can plan, plan, plan, but inevitably something will go wrong.  Maybe you have a major conference call set up… but you forgot that Arizona doesn’t acknowledge the time change.  Or maybe you have a demo for a big fish you have been chasing… but the go-to-meeting password isn’t working.  Or maybe you work in a spa where appointments are booked back-to-back and you have to complete your treatment, escort your client to the front to educate them on home care, and then get back in time to change over for the next Esthetician waiting to setup for their client.  In these crazy moments, we are all glad for the Good Samaritans.  These are the kind souls who don’t think twice to jump in and help even when others walk by thinking ‘not my problem!’   These are the people that step in and coordinate with your client’s receptionist and clear up the time discrepancy.  These are the people that find the right password and log in to the webinar while you keep the sales pitch going.  And sometimes these are the people that change the linens, clean and sanitize everything that was possibly used or touched during your treatment, and whisper “don’t worry honey, we are all going home on time tonight.”.

Oftentimes, we can all be so busy worrying about our own battles that we forget to help others to pick up their sword to keep fighting their own. It’s refreshing to come across people that not only understand that… but put it into practice every day.  So while you are busy climbing the ladder and chasing your dreams, don’t forget to say thank you to the people that make it all happen behind the scenes.  And while you are busy remembering, make the effort to be a Good Samaritan yourself.
