Every month has a holiday or tradition that is familiar to all of us.  December is all about Christmas, January is New Years, and February is undeniably about Valentines Day.  This tradition evokes thoughts of love, roses, and chocolates.  In the spa world,  it’s known as a time for clients to pamper themselves or a loved one with a treatment to relax, rejuvenate, and feel good.  Who doesn’t love that?

So, along the lines of love, I’ve been thinking about why I became an esthetician in the first place.  I read an article recently about creating a foundation for your business based on what you are trying to accomplish.  It said that ‘leaders who tap into their passion behind why they created their business’ were the most successful and commanded the greatest loyalty.  Now, isn’t that true?  Businesses that focus on instilling the basis of why it matters to ‘love what we do’ are the ones that have been around for years and years and continue to thrive.  Those are the places we consistently go to, like our favorite restaurant where the food is always great and the service is even better.  The people there actually believe and buy into the company motto and it really shows.

So, here I am in my 10th week of doing what I have always wanted to do in an area I’ve always wanted to be.  I can remember having the same conversations over and over with my best friend April about one day opening up a spa.  I had a running list of all the cool ideas I would implement once I had my first treatment room.  I came up with the name Sweet Life Skincare patterned after my very favorite Italian phrase, ‘La Dolce Vita’; a sign I still have hanging in my condo in Hilton Head.  My husband and I would always hang out on Canton Street in Roswell, and I would tell him that I would love to have my business on this fun little street with restaurants, boutiques, art galleries, and coffee shops – all within walking distance.  What I am doing now was always my ‘pie in the sky’ dream, and I am living it!  Sometimes it’s hard to believe and fully appreciate.

I started Sweet Life Skincare with the hope that I could make a difference in my client’s lives.  I remember what it was like to have a busy, stressful life and feel like there was never time to relax.  I also remember the toll that lifestyle took on my health and self confidence.  I LOVE to see my clients come into my treatment room and instantly relax.  Once they are under the cozy covers, listening to the nature sounds, and the steam is starting to kiss their face, it’s like this calm settles over them.  I can visibly see their bodies relax and see them drift to sleep – which is exactly what I hope for.  My friend Lisa says that everyone walks out of my treatment room looking like they have been drugged (only drug we have is happy)!  They have been able to escape whatever has been stressing them out for a couple hours.  The husband of one of my very first clients asked me ‘what did you do to my wife?  She’s always so happy after she leaves you!’. Now that’s reinforcement for why I chose to be an esthetician.

The other part of why I LOVE what I do is being able to affect change in my client’s skin.  For every treatment done, I like to reach out to each client and ask them how their skin has been doing since their facial.  So, when someone tells me that the texture has never been smoother, or the lines they had have softened, or the pigmented spots are lighter, it makes me so happy.  It’s wonderful to come in and enjoy a relaxing facial, but when you see positive change in your skin’s health and condition, it makes the experience even more rewarding.  It’s what makes my clients a believer in taking care of their skin in order to see an improvement.

In a nutshell, my vision for Sweet Life Skincare in 2015 is this:  to make my clients more comfortable in their own skin. I LOVE what I do, and I hope it continues to show for years to come 🙂
